    Dear Parents and Guardians,

I want to thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding for Friday, March 23rd’s precautionary school closure.  I have been contacted by several parents for additional information and while I am not at liberty to discuss some of the issues directly related to what led to the Friday closure, I can tell you that reports of a student with a handgun were not found to be accurate.  In working with the Estancia Police force I can report there was no verifiable evidence that there was a real threat to staff or students at our schools. Your students are safe at school.   We will continue to rely on monitoring social media, reports from students and most importantly information families provide to us and local police about possible threats.  I want to apologize for any undue distress I may have caused anyone, however, I will continue to error on the side of caution when it comes to student and staff safety.

    March 13, 2018

    Dear Parent,

The Partnership for a Healthy Torrance Community representing Torrance County is conducting a survey in your child’s classroom on March 20, 2018.  We are requesting your permission to include your child in the survey.  The survey will be completely anonymous.  We will not ask your child’s name at any time. The questionnaire will ask about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in addition to access to alcohol and other drugs, attitudes towards substance use, and perceived risk of being caught drinking alcohol or using drugs.  This year we have included questions on bullying.  It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Permission from your school principal Martha Ward was granted to conduct the survey in your child’s English classroom.  Your child has the right to refuse to participate in the survey.

We will be conducting the survey each year with the purpose of tracking risky behaviors among youth in our community over time.  This information will help us determine if our prevention strategies are working or not so that we can make improvements if needed.

If you DO NOT want your child to participate, please complete the form being sent home and return to Principal Martha Ward by March 19, 2018.

    Go Bears!

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your child should be bringing home a letter today regarding the upcoming Eclipse.  The Secondary Staff will be coordinating Solar Eclipse activities in their classrooms on Monday, August 21, 2017.  Some students will be making Solar Eclipse boxes that they can use to view this phenomenon, weather permitting.  Teachers will be including instructions for viewing the eclipse and the hazards of looking directly at the sun.

If you DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO PARTICIPATE, please fill out and return the bottom portion of that letter by Monday morning.

We take your child’s safety as a priority.  Thank you!

    Welcome Back!
We have a new parent drop-off/pick-up point.  All Middle School and High School students may be picked up or dropped off by the High School Gym, the north side of the Middle School, or at the cafeteria.  Please help us to ensure student safety by not dropping off or picking up students near the bus loading/unloading area or on the streets.  Thank you for your assistance!

Please check your mail for your student's schedule.  Schedule changes can happen 8/8-8/10 at the High School Library from 10:00-3:00.  We would like all schedule changes to happen before school starts.  Please be aware that assessment data may lead to necessary schedule changes for student success.

    Attention All Estancia Bear Athletes:

There will be a MANDATORY preseason parent meeting on Tuesday, August 22 at 6:30 pm in the main gym. All athletes that are participating in fall sports must have a parent or guardian present and signed in for them. Any athletes whose parent or guardian does not attend the meeting will not dress out for the first game of their fall sport season. If an athlete dresses for both varsity and sub-varsity games, they will sit out a varsity contest.

We will have additional meetings for winter and spring sports, however, all head coaches of all sports will be available at the fall meeting and attendance at the fall meeting will suffice for a student for the rest of the year.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Athletic Coordinator Stewart Burnett at 505-267-8425.
